Best Beer Bars: Melbourne, FL

I do my fare share of traveling around this country, and when I travel I look for the Best Beer Bars in the area. When traveling alone, there are seldom places that a single person can go that are acceptable by society. I could go to a fast food drive thru or I can go to a bar. To me the choice is clear. Here are 3 recommendations of the Best Beer Bars in the Melbourne, FL area.

Coasters
Found in the corner of a Walmart shopping center, this hidden gem offers some of the best commercial craft beer available in this country (Thanks Bill!). This cozy pub and restaurant is located just west of A1A and south of Eau Galle Blvd. in Melbourne, FL. The buffalo chicken wrap I had for lunch was fresh and delicious. I was extremely impressed with their draft selection. I think it was near two dozen fully stocked taps with 7 or 8 used for rotating beers. When I was there, the bartender poured us a sample of Dogfish Head's latest creation Hellhound on my Ale (it was released just days prior). If you are ever beachside, Coasters is a must. If your not, get your ass over there and enjoy good food, good company, and damn good beer. Check it them out.

Meg O'Malleys
Found in Historic Downtown Melbourne, Meg O'Malleys is what every Irish pub and resturant should aspire to be. A warm and welcoming atmosphere compliments the traditional entrees. Dark wood for the bar with a ton of Irish blessings and sayings on the walls and around the bar. A small stage in the front is pefect for all the live music that is performed there. When it comes to the food, they provide a unique twist to the classic cornbeef and cabbage by serving cornbeef and cabbage wraps with a side of mustard. A must have are their irristable potato balls. I have never had a server or bartender that was not informative about the beer that they are serving. Their knowledge of beer and friendly attitude matched with quick wit always make for an enjoyable time at "Megs" (as the locals call it).

OK, now about the beer. As with every Irish pub they serve the holy trinity (Guiness, Harp, and Smithwicks). They have the typical BCM, Sam Adams, and Blue Moon. They also have some well know European ans English ales. I enjoy their various beer specials (and by specials, I mean beers that are not typically on tap) that change every few weeks to a month.

I always make it a priority to stop by Megs when I am in the Melbourne area and I would suggest you to do the same. Check out their website!

Broken Barrel Tavern
The Broken Barrel has some of the most diverse beers around. So much so that you can join their Brew Crew. It costs only $5 to join, and you can only have 5 beers a day go towards your total. They must be bottles or pints in order to count. Oh yeah, did I mention they have to be different beers. There are milestones ranging from 25 (a free t-shirt) to 1000 (a jacket and a plaque with your name on the back of a barstool). They offer over 400 bottled beers and 41 draughts. A beer drinkers paradise, the Broken Barrel offers a great selection beer and also food (especially BBQ). It is located in Palm Bay, FL (just a few miles south of Melbourne) in the Palm Bay Shopping Center. Go visit their website to learn more.

If your wondering, I live a thousand miles away from this place and I joined the Brew Crew. 2 Beers Down, 998 to Go!

My buddy Boots gave me this idea to blog about great beer bars around the country. He said it would be great for people wanting to go out to some of the best kept secrets. I could not agree more, that is why every Friday I will blog about a different area and the best places to catch some quality craft beer.
